A classic milkshake recipe submitted by Mrs. Terry Jacks of Butte, Montana. What can be more American than a wonderful chocolate or vanilla milkshake? Historically, the malted milkshake was invented by Ivar "Pop" Coulson in 1922 while working at a Walgreens soda fountain in Chicago. Coulson had always been eager to improve on whatever he and his fountain clerks had to offer, and he made generous use of Walgreens extra-rich ice cream, manufactured in Walgreen's own plant on East 40th Street in Chicago. This classic milkshake is an easier recipe but just as wonderfully good.
4 scoops of ice cream
4 tablespoons of flavored syrup
1 1/2 cups of milk
1. Place four scoops of ice cream, 4 tablespoons of flavored syrup, and 1 1/2 cups of milk into a blender.
2. Blend until texture is smooth and color is even, and serve immediately in tall glasses.
