Fried Shrimp In Gravy (University of Georgia Tailgating Recipes)

This tailgating recipe spotlights the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team and the wonderful shrimp that can be found on the Georgia coast. Wild Georgia Shrimp are guaranteed to be a species indigenous to the clean coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean, caught by local shrimp fisherman and landed at a certified facility in Georgia. Serve this fine shrimp recipe at your next tailgating event and Go Bulldogs!

1 lb. medium Wild Georgia shrimp (peeled and deveined)

1 large onion (diced)

2 cups flour

1pint buttermilk

Wesson oil

Water

1 tablespoon garlic salt

1 teaspoon Red pepper

1. In large bowl combine buttermilk, garlic salt, red pepper and stir thoroughly.

2. Add shrimp. Marinate for 30 minutes.

3. In large zip lock bag add flour, take Wild Georgia shrimp out of marinate (about 6 to 8 shrimp at a time), place in bag and shake vigorously until well coated.

4. Place Wild Georgia shrimp on wax paper until ready to fry.

5. Fry Wild Georgia shrimp in large frying pan in 1/2 inch of Wesson oil until brown.

6. Place shrimp on platter.

7. In same frying pan add onion, 3 or 4 tbsp. of flour and simmer until flour is brown.

8. Add enough water to thin flour mixture and simmer for about 10 minutes.

9. Add salt and pepper to taste and then add fried Wild Georgia shrimp back into gravy and simmer for about 5 more minutes.

Serve over cooked rice.
