This apple sauce recipe is a perfect side dish for your joyous Thanksgiving Day meal. The chicken broth melds with the maple-flavored syrup to form outstanding flavors. Happy Thanksgiving!
1 14-oz. can chicken broth
1 cup apple cider or apple juice
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1/3 cup pure maple or maple-flavored syrup
2 Tablespoons cider vinegar
2 bay leaves
3 Tablespoons butter
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper or freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon snipped fresh sage or fresh oregano
1. In a medium saucepan, combine broth, apple cider, onion, maple syrup, cider vinegar, and bay leaves.
2. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 15 minutes or until onion is very soft. Remove the bay leaves; discard.
3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and pepper.
4. Carefully add hot cider mixture all at once.
5. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
6. Add sage. Cook and stir 1 minute more.
Makes 3-1/4 cups.
