Ghoul's Punch (Halloween Beverage Recipes)

This Halloween beverage recipe is a perfect recipe for your adult Halloween party! Eyeball candy on licorice rocks creates a striking, edible party tableau under the cider punch. The fog drifting off the drink comes from the dry ice placed in a heavy metal cup set down in the punch. Dry ice is extremely cold; handle it with tongs.

1/2  gallon apple cider or apple juice (8 cups)

1/2  cup cinnamon honey, wildflower honey, orange blossom honey, or desired honey

1  orange, sliced

6  inches stick cinnamon

1  tablespoon coarsely chopped, peeled fresh ginger

1  teaspoon whole allspice

1  teaspoon whole cloves

1  bay leaf, optional

1. For punch base: In a 4-quart Dutch oven, combine cider and honey.

2. Add orange slices. For spice bag, place cinnamon, fresh ginger, allspice, cloves and bay leaf, if you like, in the center of a double-thick, 8- to 10-inch square of 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth.

3. Tie closed with a clean string.

4. Add spice bag to the saucepan with cider mixture.

5. Bring to boiling; reduce heat.

6. Simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.

7. Remove orange slices and spice bag; discard.

If you like, strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve*.

Makes about 8 cups base.
