Bees are said to have come from heaven; perhaps that's the Saints' Honey reason candles made of beeswax are used in Christian worship services!

Make Saints' Honey

3-4 firm, ripe pears

1 1/4 cups sugar

Pinch nutmeg

1/4 lemon, thinly sliced

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 cup water

1. Peel, core, and chop the ripe pears into a two-quart pot.

2. Add remaining ingredients.

3. Boil 12-15 minutes until the mixture looks like jam.

4. Pour into a clear, tightly sealed jar and refrigerate.

5. Use as soon as possible. Include honey in several dishes to be served at home during Advent.
